In a fresh criticism aimed at Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia regarding the chaos at Delhi airport due to fog-related flight delays, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor lamented on Thursday that Scindia, since switching sides, has adopted the Modi government’s uncaring attitude toward the public. Tharoor engaged in a war of words with Scindia over the flight delays and chaos, issuing a point-by-point rebuttal of Scindia’s arguments. He urged the minister to shift focus from his armchair to the passengers’ agony, addressing incompetencies and loopholes in the Ministry’s functioning.
Tharoor challenged Scindia’s claims, questioning the delayed runway maintenance and the government’s response to a crane obstructing the runway. He highlighted the acute pilot shortage and flight diversions, criticizing the BJP government’s UDAN scheme and airport expansion claims. Tharoor emphasized the economic losses and disruptions faced by people during the festive season.
Amid accusations of name-calling, Tharoor called on Scindia to apologize to the affected passengers. He underscored the government’s failure to proactively address anticipated issues, urging the minister to focus on resolving incompetencies. The former Union minister pointed out evident shortcomings in government planning and called for a shift in the minister’s approach from rhetoric to addressing the suffering of the people.
