In Kengeri, the commemoration of the 90th year since the inauguration of the drinking water well by Mahatma Gandhi has drawn attention to the remarkable ideologies and contributions of the Father of the Nation. MLA ST Somasekhar emphasized the relevance of Gandhi’s principles and highlighted the well’s historical significance. The commemorative event, conducted near the historic well in Hammikom, witnessed the participation of MLA Somasekhar, alongside enthusiastic school and college students, aiming to raise awareness about constructing memorials. However, the absence of certain BJP leaders and workers at this event was noted with regret by the MLA. The Gurukul Vidyapeeth’s preservation efforts for the well received appreciation, acknowledging the relentless dedication of numerous Kengeri residents towards fostering a socially conscious community. Preceding the program, civic workers cleaned the surroundings and undertook maintenance work, advocating for the well’s recognition as a monument. The occasion also witnessed the documentation of Kengeri’s historical aspects by officials of the Kengeri Youth Charitable Trust, Dharitri Coordinator Rahul Dharmasena, and Sardar Dharmendra Kumar of Mysore Stories. Acknowledging his contributions, Kumar was honored with the title ‘Emperor of Mysore Stories’ for his storytelling about the region. The event served as a meaningful tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s timeless values and highlighted the need to preserve such historic landmarks as symbols of national heritage.
