A program to distribute boiled eggs, bananas, and peanut chickies along with mid-day meals in government and aided schools was launched to combat malnutrition among children. The initiative was introduced at a government high school in Kumbalagud, part of the Yeshavantpur Assembly Constituency.
Currently, boiled chicken eggs are served two days a week with the mid-day meal. With support from the Azim Premji Foundation, eggs will now be provided four days a week, allowing children to receive eggs six days a week. The foundation has donated Rs 1,500 crore to facilitate this program. For children who cannot consume eggs, chickpeas and bananas will be provided.
Local leaders noted that malnutrition among children has increased recently, and this initiative aims to improve both physical health and mental development. The education officials expressed that the provision of eggs will aid in the overall growth of government school students. The program was attended by school officials, teachers, and students.
