In a tragic incident, a wild elephant cub was found dead under mysterious circumstances near Kandli village in Kalaghatgi taluk. For the past four days, herds of elephants have been spotted in and around Sulikatti, Masalikatti and Sangameshwara villages in the taluk. The elephant cub, which was part of a group of three wild elephants that had come to the country from the forest, died under mysterious circumstances.The deceased elephant calf, which is about one-and-a-half years old, was visited by forest department officials and inspected the spot. The doctors have conducted the post-mortem of the baby elephant and the exact cause of death will be ascertained after the post-mortem report is received. The death of the cub has come as a surprise and panic among the forest department and the people around it.
