The Income Tax Department, following its raids at Boudh Distilleries Private Limited in Odisha and Jharkhand, has requisitioned additional counting machines to handle the substantial amount of cash discovered. The operations spanned Bolangir and Sambalpur in Odisha, as well as Ranchi and Lohardaga in Jharkhand, as per sources from the Income Tax department.
Although the counting of notes, totaling up to Rs 50 crore, was completed by the previous day, the sheer volume of currency caused the machines to malfunction. Enormous sums of cash were confiscated from locations associated with the company on Tuesday. Despite tallying Rs 50 crore worth of notes by Tuesday, there is still a significant amount of cash left to be processed, according to insider information.
The surplus cash led to the machines overheating and halting operations on Tuesday. In response, additional counting machines have been requested to facilitate the ongoing counting process. Sources reveal that the local banks lack the infrastructure to accommodate such large sums at one location. Consequently, arrangements are being made to store the money by collaborating with major banks.
In instances where income tax searches yield recovered cash, the standard protocol involves depositing the funds in government-owned banks.
