Srinivasapura Taluk Bandh To Protest Against Congress Leader Srinivas’s Murder

Various Dalit and progressive organisations have called for a bandh in Srinivasapura taluk to protest against the murder of Congress leader and Dalit leader Srinivas. The accused in the murder case of a Congress leader in Srinivasapura should be given the death penalty. Activists of various Dalit and progressive organisations demanded that the case be handed over to the CBI. The leaders of the organisations took to the streets this morning and took out a bike rally in Srinivasapura town.

The roads were empty due to the bandh. The traders closed their shops   in support and traffic was completely closed. Leaders of several organisations took out a procession carrying a cutout of deceased councillor Srinivas in the town. They anointed the portrait of Srinivas with milk. Tight security arrangements were made to prevent any untoward incident and a Police cordon has been put in place at Srinivasapura under the leadership of DySP Nanda Kumar.

Srinivas, a Dalit and a local influential leader of the Congress, was brutally murdered by a group of unidentified men near a farm on Hogalere Road in Srinivasapura in the district on October 23.

  Amar, an eyewitness, had informed about the murder. Srinivas was hacked to death with a stick and a machete. Srinivas’s assistants Amar and Krishnappa, who were present there, were also attacked by the miscreants, both of whom escaped. Later, the six killers fled from the spot.

 Srinivas was an influential Dalit leader in Srinivasapura. He has been in active politics for the last 40 years. He has worked in various capacities. He has also served as a Municipal Councillor, Zilla Panchayat President and APMC President. He was with the JD(S) till 2018, later joined the Congress.
