City Set To Expand Metro Network: 317 Km Of Metro Lines By 2031, Confirms CM

Responding to the rapid urban growth and escalating transportation demands in Bengaluru, the state government has granted approval for the ambitious construction of 317 km of metro lines as part of the Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) scheduled for completion by 2031. Currently, significant progress has been made with 257 km of metro lines either operational, under construction, or in various stages of planning. Feasibility surveys for the remaining 60 km are set to commence imminently, underlining the government’s commitment to ensuring comprehensive and efficient transportation facilities for the entire populace of Bengaluru.

In a recent tweet, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah underscored the government’s unwavering dedication to enhancing the city’s transportation infrastructure, recognizing the pressing need to address the ever-growing mobility challenges faced by the city’s residents.

The initial phase of the metro expansion witnessed the establishment of a 42.3 km metro network at a cost of 14,133 crore rupees, with the state government contributing 5,630 crore rupees towards the project. This substantial investment marked a significant step forward in addressing the city’s pressing transportation needs. Building upon this success, the subsequent phase-2 of the expansion involved the construction of 75.06 km of metro lines, requiring a budget of 30,695 crore rupees, with the state government contributing 11,583 crore rupees to facilitate the project’s progression.

The comprehensive expansion plan serves as a testament to the state government’s steadfast dedication to bolstering Bengaluru’s transportation infrastructure, with a clear focus on facilitating seamless travel experiences and enhancing overall connectivity for its burgeoning population.
