India had a stellar day in athletics and boxing at the Asian Games, nearing its all-time medal record at the games. The country won a total of eight medals in various events. In athletics, Parul Chaudhary became the first Indian woman to win a gold medal in the 5000m race, while javelin thrower Annu Rani secured gold. India also won two silver medals in athletics with Tejaswin Shankar in decathlon and MOhd Afsal in Men’s 800m. Additionally, Praveen Chitharavel won bronze in the triple jump, and Vithya Ramraj secured bronze in women’s 400m hurdles. In boxing, world champion and Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain reached the final in the Women’s 75kg category, guaranteeing herself a medal. These outstanding performances have brought India close to surpassing its all-time Asian Games medal record of 70 medals achieved at the 2018 games in Indonesia. Furthermore, Abhishek Verma and Ojas Deotale assured India of two medals in archery by reaching the final of the Compound Men’s Individual competition, ensuring a 1-2 finish for the country. Jyothi Surekha Vennam also secured a medal in archery by advancing to the final. Despite these successes, the recurve archers Atanu Das and Dhiraj Bommadevara faced disappointment as they lost in shoot-offs, matches they were expected to win. This strong performance across multiple disciplines demonstrates India’s prowess at the Asian Games and its potential to achieve record-breaking success.
