A Delhi court has allowed Sunita Kejriwal, wife of jailed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, to access his medical records and independently consult with doctors on his behalf. However, the court rejected Kejriwal’s plea to have Sunita as his attendant during medical consultations while in prison.
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja emphasized that under Delhi Prison Rules, an attendant is permitted only when a prisoner is hospitalized. The court noted that several inmates with similar ailments to Kejriwal were not granted attendants, thus declining to make an exception.
Regarding access to medical records, the court found no objection from prison authorities and directed them to provide records of Kejriwal’s medical meetings. It also permitted Sunita Kejriwal to consult AIIMS medical board members independently to ensure proper preparation of his prescribed diet.
The decision followed Kejriwal’s acknowledgment that his medical records were being shared appropriately and his family was providing him home-cooked meals as per AIIMS recommendations. The court’s ruling enables Sunita Kejriwal to actively participate in managing her husband’s medical care within the confines of prison regulations.
