In the floods affecting Assam, at least 92 animals have lost their lives, either due to drowning or during treatment as of Saturday. Kaziranga National Park in Bokakhat reported that 95 animals were rescued during rescue operations.

Among the casualties, 11 Hog Deer died during treatment, while 62 drowned. Three Rhinos and one Otter also perished due to drowning and other unspecified reasons, according to official reports. Currently, 27 Hog Deer, one Otter, one Rhino, one Elephant, one Jungle Cat, and two Scoops Owls are receiving treatment. Approximately 50 animals, including two Sambar, 47 Hog Deer, and one Indian Hare, were treated and subsequently released from the park. The flood situation has led to the establishment of 233 camps across the Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, including significant placements in Kaziranga and other key locations.

Water levels at Pasighat and Dibrugarh have receded below the danger mark, but remain perilously high at Numaligarh, Nimatighat, Tezpur, and Dhansirimukh. The ongoing floods have inflicted substantial damage, causing loss of life, destroying infrastructure, disrupting roads, and devastating crops and livestock. Hundreds of people have been displaced across the region.

In Kamrup Metropolitan district, one child is reported missing. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Dibrugarh to assess the situation firsthand and interacted with locals and experts to address community concerns.

Updating the media on flood relief efforts, Sarma acknowledged improvements in the overall flood situation but noted persistent challenges in areas adjacent to embankments and bridges.
