In a stern warning to motorists, Alok Kumar, Additional Director General of Police, Traffic and Road Safety, issued a cautionary message via social media. He asserted that driving on the wrong side of National Highways could result in jail time and the suspension of driving licenses. This announcement follows recent incidents of reckless driving on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway. The trigger for this strong response was a video shared by Vinaykumar Ghanshyam, depicting a motorist dangerously driving against traffic on the Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway. Expressing his concern, Ghanshyam called on Alok Kumar for action, highlighting the persistence of wrong-way driving on the highway. A similar incident was reported earlier when Renjith Thomas shared a video showcasing a car traveling in the wrong direction on the same highway. In response to this incident, Alok Kumar had already pledged to take action against the offending driver. It’s worth noting that recent measures have significantly improved safety on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway. The enforcement of an 80 kmph speed limit and the prohibition of bikes and slow-moving vehicles on the access-controlled highway have contributed to a substantial reduction in fatal accidents over the past two months. With Alok Kumar’s stern warning, it is evident that the police are determined to maintain road safety on National Highways. Drivers are urged to comply with traffic regulations, particularly on these major routes, to ensure the safety of all road users. Violators should be prepared to face severe consequences, including jail time and the suspension of their driving privileges.
