Dr. Suresh B Itnal, District Collector and President of Koppal District Child Labour Scheme Society, said that all government offices must take a pledge on June 12 on the occasion of World Day Against Child Labour.
Officials said the Child Labour Prohibition and Regulation Act bans employment of children below 14 years and restricts hazardous work for those aged 14 to 18 years.
They added that fines have been increased to fifty thousand rupees and police stations are registering FIRs in such cases.
The Union Labour Ministry and Karnataka Labour Department have prepared action plans to eliminate child labour and create child labour free zones through coordinated efforts.
Dr Suresh Itnal said that all departments, voluntary organisations and citizens must work together to completely eradicate child labour and ensure strict implementation of laws.
The district administration said that this year’s theme Red card to child labour Fair play for children decent work for adults will guide awareness programmes across Koppal district and all villages will participate in pledge activities on June 12.
Officials said the International Labour Organization United Nations and state departments are jointly working to make Karnataka child labour free through strict enforcement awareness and community participation.
Authorities appealed to all stakeholders including teachers parents and local bodies to actively identify and report child labour cases and support rehabilitation efforts so that no child is deprived of education safety and dignity and urged continuous monitoring at village level to ensure effective implementation of government schemes and create a safe future for every child in the district.
