The Maharashtra government will launch the ‘My Village, Healthy Village’ campaign from April 1 to improve healthcare services in rural areas and promote healthier lifestyles among citizens.
The initiative will be implemented under the guidance of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar.
The campaign, led by Public Health Minister Prakash Abitkar and Minister of State Meghna Sakore Bordikar, aims to transform villages into healthier communities. Officials said the goal is to make this effort a people’s movement with active public participation.
Under the programme, healthcare services will be strengthened from village level to the state level. The campaign focuses on both treatment and prevention of diseases by promoting sanitation, safe drinking water, nutrition, and proper waste management. It will also address communicable diseases, lifestyle illnesses, maternal and child health, and mental well-being.
All levels of local governance, including gram panchayats and district councils, will take part in the initiative. Awareness drives will be conducted to encourage villagers to adopt better health practices and maintain cleanliness.
To ensure smooth execution, committees have been formed at the state, district, and village levels. The state-level committee will monitor the overall progress, while implementation teams will carry out activities on the ground.
Villages will be assessed based on set health criteria, and those scoring above 70 per cent will be declared “Healthy Villages.” These villages will receive recognition through certificates, mementoes, and financial rewards.
The state government has approved a budget of ₹80.75 crore for the campaign. Incentives will also be given to health institutions, with awards for top-performing hospitals, sub-health centres, and primary health centres at both district and state levels to encourage better performance.
