Pooja Hegde headlined Ala Vaikunthapuramuloo opposite Allu Arjun. The film became one of the biggest success stories of 2020 – it rose from the Telugu market and found takers in language-markets across the country. The film is currently being remade by director Rohit Dhawan with Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon. Titled Shehzaada, the film was being shot in parts of Delhi and its neighbouring regions until recently. In a recent chat with Pooja Hegde, we asked her if she would have indeed liked to reprise her role in the remake.
The actress said, “I have played the part and I am done living it. I wish Kriti all the luck with this film. She was my co-star in Housefull 4 and we’ve had a great working relationship. I love the memories attached to Ala Vaikunthapuramuloo. ButtaBomma became such a huge success and so did the film. It found its way into the hearts of the audience. That’s good enough for me. And if you look at it, even Allu sir is not reprising his role in the remake. Besides, I don’t want to revisit the journeys I’ve already completed in the past. I would rather do something new.”
Back in the day, it was reported that Housefull 5 will bring almost all the leading artistes of the franchise together for a crazy comical ride. The list included Pooja and Kriti, too. When asked about what’s happening to Housefull 5, Pooja said, “I don’t know anything about Housefull 5 at the moment and I don’t know if it is in the offing. Sajid (Nadiadwala) sir and Akshay (Kumar) sir are the best people to talk about it.”
Pooja is currently gearing up to start work on Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali with Salman Khan and director Farhad Samji. She’s also expected to kick off her next with Mahesh Babu. Among her other films are Acharya, Beast and Cirkus which have all been shot and will open later in the year. “It has rarely happened with me that I start the year with a string of fresh projects. In the last four years or so, I’ve always had projects spilling over from the previous year into the next. I’m very happy that I have Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali and Mahesh Babu’s next starting almost around the same time. They will pretty much take up the rest of my year but I’ll be happy to accomodate one or two interesting projects besides these in the year. I want to continue my run the way it has been for the last four years. At the moment, I’m just waiting to meet director Farhad Samji and discuss my character in Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali with him. Although it’s a Salman Khan-centric film, I have a meaty and an interesting role to play. We have to just sit and chalk out the finer details,” Pooja said.
