Roads, Mobility Are Biggest Issues Plaguing Citizens: B.PAC Survey

Must read

Residents of Bengaluru are unhappy with the overall governance of the city as construction and maintenance of roads, drinking water facilities and garbage removal top the charts in key issues needing attention, a comprehensive survey by Bangalore Political Action Committee (B.PAC), a non-partisan citizens’ group, revealed.
Revathy Ashok, the managing trustee and CEO of B.PAC, said that politicians respond only to the demands of the citizens and they have to be very active.
If citizens are quiet, politicians will be okay and they don’t have to work hard enough. Things begin to happen where the citizens are active and push for their demands, Ashok said.
We want MLAs and corporators, she added, to understand and start working on these issues.
The survey was conducted between February and May 2022 and over 8,405 responses were collected across 186 wards in the eight zones of the Bruhat Bengaluru MahanagaraPalike (BBMP).
According to the findings, 57 per cent of the respondents said that the overall governance in Bengaluru was not satisfactory. Citizens were dissatisfied most with roads and mobility services in the city.
Only 34 per cent of the respondents were said to be satisfied with mobility conditions in their particular wards, whereas, only 30 per cent were most satisfied with the condition of roads.
The majority of the respondents – 70 per cent – were not satisfied with the lighting and safety conditions and garbage and waste management in their wards. Only 37 per cent of the respondents were happy with the development and maintenance of parks and playgrounds in their wards, the findings noted.
