Home Minister Araga Gnanendra instructed the authorities to cancel the license of shops selling liquor illegally and take legal action against them.
He was speaking at a meeting organized at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Monday, by Akhila Karnataka Jana Jagriti Vedike in coordination with various departments to control the consumption of alcohol and drugs.
The government is organizing programs in the form of a movement to make the state free from drub abuse. Tons of drugs were seized by the police department last year and destroyed last month. But this scourge cannot be completely eradicated without the cooperation of organizations and public. Drug addiction also has a direct impact on law and order in the state. Some external forces are also trying to wage indirect war on our country by bringing drugs into the country. The minister said that the government has taken this seriously and is committed to completely eliminate the use and sale of drugs.
In order to make Shivamogga an addiction-free district, all the departments should coordinate with the organizations and work, he aid.
Special Ward:
A special ward for de-addiction at Meggan District Hospital has been planned and will start its functioning within this month. The police have been instructed to take legal action against those who consume alcohol in public places. All schools and colleges are organizing programmes to create awareness about drug abuse. Special attention is being paid to students who drop out of school in the middle of academic year. Deputy Commissioner Dr Selvamani said that all the departments have been instructed to work in coordination to check the level of drug consumption.
District Superintendent of Police BM Lakshmiprasad, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer ML Vyshali, office bearers of All Karnataka Janajagruthi Vedike Trust, officers of various departments participated.
