It was BM Shri who inspired modern Kannada literature through his work  – English Songs. This work has historical significance in the cultural world of Kannada,  critic Dr.Narahalli Balasubramanya opined.  

He was speaking while inaugurating a one-day seminar on BMShree Marg, organized by Kannada Bharati Department of Kuvempu University in collaboration with Karnataka Sahitya Academy at Prof SP Hiremath Hall, in commemoration of 100 years of English Songs literature.

It was BMShri who wrote a new commentary on the Kannada Renaissance literature and thereby paved a new path for the budding writers of that time. Then the history of how Kannada literature and cultural world evolved.

Talking  about the Kannada literary heritage, ignorance about the heritage is not the right thing to do. Engagement with heritage is essential for managing contemporary challenges and crises. 12th century and 20th century are important periods for Kannada literature. He asserted that if the Vachana chalavali was freed from Sanskrit, it was only in the 20th century that it was freed from colonialism.

Chancellor Prof  BP Veerabhadrappa said that Kannada literature  has historically made significant contributions to Karnataka and Kannada identity. It may be vachana literature, Renaissance, Navya, Dalit-rebellion movements, the cultivation of Kannada literature has made a unique contribution to the cultural world of Karnataka, he said.

Later in the concerts, Dr. Byramangala Ramegowda, Dr. Geeta Vasant, Dr. KC Shivareddy, Dr. A Raghuram spoke about various dimensions of literature by BMShri.

Karnataka Sahitya Academy President Dr. BV Vasantakumar spoke. Kannada Bharati Director Dr. G Prashant leader, Prof. Sivananda Pilimani, Dr. Nellikatte Siddesh, Marshal Sharam were present.
