BBMP introduces health ATMs to enhance healthcare accessibility

Must read

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is set to launch Health ATMs at Namma Clinics across the city, enabling residents to self-screen for non-communicable diseases and monitor over 60 health parameters. This initiative aims to benefit middle and low-income communities. The BBMP has called for tenders to install 18 of these compact ATM-sized machines in the project’s first phase, with an expected launch by December. Notably, all screenings will be free during this pilot phase.

The Health ATMs will be similar to bank ATMs, featuring touchscreens and various medical devices, including a 12-lead ECG, digital stethoscope, and blood pressure monitor. They will also provide kits for testing dengue, pregnancy, typhoid, malaria, and HIV, alongside automated tools for measuring temperature, height, and weight.

Each unit is estimated to cost around Rs 10 lakh, and the selected company will need to set up the machines within 30 days of receiving the supply order. A one-month supply of reagents is included in the contract.

These Health ATMs will be linked to an online platform, allowing patients and doctors to access health data for follow-up consultations. BBMP staff will receive training to assist users, and telemedicine services will be integrated in the future to connect users with specialists. This initiative marks a crucial step towards improving healthcare access for Bengaluru’s underserved populations, enhancing the existing services provided at Namma Clinics.
