A successful animal exchange program has been completed between Bannerghatta Biological Park and Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park in Patna, Bihar, with approval from the Central Zoo Authority in New Delhi. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance species diversity in conservation.
As part of the exchange, Bannerghatta Biological Park sent one male zebra and two male Thamin deer to the Patna Zoo. In return, the park received an endangered gharial, a white tiger, and a wild cat. These new residents are currently housed in a quarantine area for several days to help them acclimatize to Bengaluru’s climate, where they are under constant observation.
The animal exchange program aims to strengthen conservation and breeding efforts at both zoos, while also offering visitors the chance to see and learn about the animals up close. Such programs emphasize the collaborative efforts of Indian zoos in promoting conservation, education, and species management.
