Minister Umesh Katti Visits Zoo

Minister for Forest, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumers Affairs Department Umesh Katti visited the Mysuru Zoo on Thursday morning.  The minister viewed the progress in construction of Gorilla gallery, Godown of Zoo, kitchen and hospital.  He gathered information from the officers about the facilities provided  in the zoo. 

Zoo Authority president Mahadevaswamy, members Gokul Govardhan, Zoo Director Ajith Kulkarni and others were present.

Speaking to media persons after viewing the Zoo, the Minister said that in the background of development of State tourism, necessary encouragement has been given to the Zoo.  The government is proposing to open a zoo near Ilkal dam.  Already a proposal has been submitted to the central government for approval.  We are planning to build a zoo on 100 acres of land. 

If the zoo starts, tourism will be developed.  It is also planned to open zoo in different districts of the state with the opinion of animal experts.  Our mission is to develop all zoos in the state like Mysuru Zoo.  The zoo is being opened with the aim of introducing animals, birds to today’s young people.  This is the main programme of the forest department, the minister said.
