India has successfully evacuated another 312 fishermen stranded in Iran, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar announced on Saturday.

The evacuation, facilitated through Armenia, is part of India’s ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of its citizens amid escalating tensions in West Asia.
Taking to social media platform X, Jaishankar confirmed the safe return of the fishermen and expressed gratitude to the Armenian government for its cooperation. He also thanked his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan for enabling the smooth transit of Indian nationals from Iran to India.

This marks another significant step in India’s evacuation operations in the conflict-affected region. Earlier, on April 5, a group of 345 Indian fishermen had safely arrived in Chennai after being evacuated through Armenia. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, these efforts are part of a coordinated mission to bring back Indians stranded due to the ongoing regional instability.

Officials revealed that more than 1,200 Indian nationals have been evacuated from Iran so far, with 996 of them routed through Armenia. The Armenian government has played a crucial role in facilitating safe passage during the crisis, highlighting strong diplomatic coordination between the two nations.

Meanwhile, diplomatic developments are unfolding in Islamabad, where delegations from the United States and Iran have gathered for high-level negotiations aimed at easing tensions in the Gulf region. J. D. Vance arrived in Islamabad to lead the American delegation for the talks, expressing optimism about a positive outcome.

The negotiations represent the first formal engagement between Washington and Tehran in this phase of the conflict, following a fragile two-week ceasefire. However, challenges persist, including ongoing military actions and disagreements over regional dynamics, particularly involving Israel and Hezbollah.

The United States delegation also includes key figures such as Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who are expected to push for a structured negotiation framework. The outcome of these talks is being closely watched, as it could significantly impact stability in the Middle East and the global economic outlook.

India continues to monitor the situation closely while prioritising the safety and evacuation of its citizens from affected regions.
