Expressing concerns over the death of Kannada serial actress Chethana Raj who passed due to plastic surgery, Ramya has spoken about the gender bias in the film industry on her Instagram page.
She wrote, “The industry sets very unrealistic beauty standards for women and there’s immense pressure on women to look a certain way. Post my tumour removal from the foot I have struggled with my weight. I am on a weight loss journey but at my own pace and on my terms. I completely empathise with the actress who lost her life. This standard btw is not set for men. (1 don’t think there should be for anyone) Women need to know this- there is no way to be- but yourself. Don’t let the world dictate to you how to be. The industry needs to be more inclusive wrt to roles for women. It’s time to change the rules
A man can lose all his hair wear a toupee, pot bellied and each cheek can weigh 5 kilos each and he’d still be considered a hero even at 65 but the same is not applicable for women. The woman puts on a few kilos she’s automatically called aunty, buddhi, ajji, etc Women need to collectively fight these biases. P.s A real ‘hero’would be someone who fights alongside women against these biases. Your looks don’t matter.”
