A group of BJP dissidents has announced a month-long public awareness campaign from November 25 to December 25, starting in Bidar, to protest against the state Congress government. The campaign focuses on allegations that the Waqf Board is issuing notices to farmers regarding their land, creating significant controversy in the state.
BJP leaders Basanagowda Patil Yatnal, Ramesh Jarakiholi, and Aravinda Limbavali shared details of the campaign during a press conference at former MLA Kumara Bangarappa’s residence in Sadashinagar. The dissident leaders, under the BJP banner, are making three main demands and have encouraged the public to send messages to the WhatsApp number 9035675734 if they feel they have been wronged by the Waqf Board.
Yatnal stated that farmers and monasteries are being unfairly treated by the Waqf Board’s orders and called for the cancellation of criminal cases, with all matters to be settled through the court. He also emphasized the need for public awareness in Karnataka, adding that the central government had already proposed amendments to the Waqf Act.
The dissidents clarified that their campaign does not require central approval, as Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Modi have already voiced support for the issue. They also invited Congress leaders and MPs to join their efforts for the benefit of the people.
