Former India wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel has been appointed as the batting and assistant coach for the Gujarat Titans in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season, the team announced on Wednesday. Patel, who enjoyed a distinguished 17-year playing career, will now join the Titans’ support staff led by head coach Ashish Nehra.
The franchise expressed excitement over Patel’s dual role, highlighting his extensive experience and understanding of the game. ‘Parthiv brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team,’ said the Titans in an official statement, adding that his insights on batting strategies and techniques are expected to be invaluable in helping players improve their skills.
Known for his sharp cricketing mind and knack for guiding young talent, Patel will play a key role in player development, according to the team. This marks Patel’s first coaching role in the IPL, though he has previously contributed to other teams in different capacities. Following his retirement in 2020, Patel worked as a talent scout for the Mumbai Indians for three seasons and served as batting coach for MI Emirates in the ILT20 league’s debut season.
The Gujarat Titans, who made an impressive start to their IPL journey, will look to strengthen their coaching team with Patel’s appointment, aiming to build on their past performances and enhance the players’ development for the upcoming season.
