In response to heavy rainfall in Chennai, Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin assured the public on Tuesday that the state government is fully prepared. Based on a study of October’s rainfall, the government has increased motor pumps and volunteer support. Currently, there are 1,194 motor pumps and 152 super sucker machines, with equipment placements up by 21% since October, he noted.

Stalin reported that there has been no significant flooding in Chennai. Out of the city’s 22 subways, 21 are operational, with the remaining one closed for railway work. The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has made extensive arrangements to manage the rainfall, including opening 329 relief camps and 120 public kitchens across the city.

The Deputy CM personally inspected the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) in Chennai to assess rain impacts and ensure readiness. “Chennai has only recorded 3.2 cm of rain so far, and we are actively monitoring the situation to prevent waterlogging,” he said.

Stalin also discussed the state’s commitment to supporting startups, with the goal of building a $1 trillion economy. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is expected across Tamil Nadu, with heavier rains predicted in some districts on Wednesday.
