Shivraj Thangadagi, the Minister of Kannada and Culture and Backward Classes Welfare, has instructed officials to buy the house of former Chief Minister, the late S Nijalingappa, in Chitradurga and complete the registration within a month. A meeting was held at Vikasa Soudha on Thursday with Kannada and Culture Department officials and the Chitradurga Deputy Commissioner to discuss the purchase and development of the house.
The Minister was informed that, despite a government grant of five crores being released earlier, the purchase and preservation of the house had been delayed. Officials explained that technical issues had caused the delay, but discussions with Nijalingappa’s son and relatives had now started the process of purchasing the house.
The Minister instructed the officials to proceed with the legal procedures and buy the house immediately. An opinion from the Law Department regarding the purchase has been sought. Officials confirmed that the purchase process will be completed within a month.
A grant of five crores has been provided for the house’s purchase, preservation, and development. Rs 4.18 crores will be spent on purchasing the house, and Rs 81.50 lakhs will be allocated for its development.
Other officials present in the meeting included Kannada and Culture Department Secretary N Manjula, Deputy Commissioner Venkatesh, Department Director Dr Dharani Devi Malagatti, and Joint Director Ashok Chalavadi.
