Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi has announced that he will retire from One-Day Internationals following the Champions Trophy, set to take place in Pakistan next year. Speaking after Afghanistan’s recent 2-1 series win over Bangladesh, the 39-year-old shared that he had been considering his ODI retirement since last year’s World Cup.

‘I had planned to retire after the last World Cup, but when we qualified for the Champions Trophy, I thought it would be great to play in it,’ Nabi said in an interview after being named Player of the Series.

Nabi has made a significant impact in ODIs since his debut in 2009, scoring 3,600 runs across 147 innings with an average of 27.48 and a strike rate of 86.99, including two centuries and 17 fifties. As a bowler, he has claimed 172 wickets in 161 innings with an economy rate of 4.27.

Afghanistan qualified for the Champions Trophy with a sixth-place finish in the last World Cup, marking their debut in this eight-team competition scheduled for February 2024.
