Social Welfare Minister HC Mahadevappa assured the coastal Marathi community that the state government is committed to addressing their legitimate demands. While inaugurating ‘Gaddige’, a convention of the Marathi community at Alva’s College auditorium in Moodbidri, Mahadevappa stated that the government will review the demands within the framework of the Constitution and law. He added that efforts will be made to present these concerns to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
The Minister emphasized that elected representatives should prioritize the aspirations of the Constitution, going beyond politics to ensure economic stability through education. He also highlighted that the government’s guarantee schemes are a blessing for economically backward communities, free from political motives.
MLA Umanath Kotian noted that the convention marked a new chapter, and efforts would be made at the government level to address the community’s demands. Dr. M Mohan Alva, President of Alva’s Education Foundation, mentioned that Marathis who migrated from Maharashtra make up about 6.9 percent of Karnataka’s population.
H Rajesh Prasad, Principal Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, emphasized the need for better education to uplift the Marathi community, which remains disadvantaged even after seven decades of Independence.
