Students of Mangalore University, led by the ABVP, staged a protest outside the administrative office, demanding resolution of issues such as delays in marks cards, high fee hikes, and chaos in the UUCMS system. The protest saw participation from students across various district colleges, who attempted to gherao the Vice-Chancellor’s office.
Barricades were set up to control the crowd, but tensions escalated as students tried to breach the barriers. In the ensuing chaos, a glass entrance door was broken, injuring a woman police constable, another officer, and a student.
Vice-Chancellor PL Dharma condemned the vandalism, calling it unacceptable, and urged students to protest peacefully. He assured them that their concerns would be forwarded to the government. However, students demanded a clear resolution timeline, threatening stronger protests if not addressed.
ACP Dhanya Nayak intervened, and the Vice-Chancellor, along with Syndicate members, promised to send the university registrar to Bengaluru on Saturday. Following this assurance, the students ended their protest. They criticized the police for inadequate crowd control, claiming the glass door was broken by a police baton.
