Bengaluru
Karnataka’s Horticulture Department is set to introduce an innovative initiative to support the state’s farmers with the launch of ‘Kisan Malls’ in Mysuru, Chitradurga, and Davangere districts. These centers will provide farmers with a comprehensive range of services and products to enhance their farming practices. The pilot project aims to offer technical advice, market access, agricultural tools, and supplies, all in one location.
Announced in the 2024-25 state budget by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the Kisan Malls will operate in collaboration with Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and are expected to open within two months. If successful, the program will be expanded to seven more districts.
Each Kisan Mall will supply products such as seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, growth hormones, and farming equipment designed for horticultural crops. Technical experts will be available to advise farmers on crop management, pest control, and disease prevention. The malls will also help farmers connect with markets, access loan facilities, and provide guidance on post-harvest techniques.
An estimated Rs 30 lakh has been allocated for each mall, with Rs 15 lakh dedicated to staffing costs, including mall managers and technical advisors, and the remaining amount for infrastructure. The malls will be managed by FPOs with a strong track record, and all preparations will be completed in the next two months to ensure timely implementation.
