Lahore faces hazardous air quality

Must read

Lahore

Lahore is grappling with dangerously high levels of air pollution, as its air quality index (AQI) remains in the hazardous zone, with levels reaching 784, making it the most polluted city globally on Thursday. This dangerous air quality has persisted for weeks, and the AQI has even surpassed 1000 on some days.

The continuous pollution has caused a surge in hospital visits for respiratory issues. Residents, especially in Lahore and surrounding cities like Multan, Kasur, and Gujranwala, are facing severe health risks. Doctors have recommended wearing masks when outdoors.

In response to the hazardous conditions, all educational institutions in Lahore and other districts of Punjab have been closed until November 17. The government has shifted schools to online classes to protect public health. Tuition centers and academies are also closed. The Punjab education department emphasized that this change is a precautionary measure, not a holiday.

The authorities continue to urge citizens to limit outdoor activities and prioritize health amid the worsening air quality.
