Special Olympics zonal sports meet for differently abled on Nov 9

 Lions Club Valencia, Special Olympics Bharat Karnataka, and Dakshina Kannada District Youth Empowerment and Sports will organise a Special Olympics zonal level sports meet for the differently abled at Mangala Stadium on Saturday.
Lions Club President Leslie D’Souza told media persons that the zonal meet will cover differently abled participants from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts. The winners at the zonal level will take part in the state-level Special Olympics to be held in Dec.
Special Olympics Sports Director Narayana Sherigar said about 435 participants already registered for the meet. We are expecting around 750 people, including parents of the participants, he said.
For those in the high ability category, events like 100m, 200m, 400m, long jump, and shot put will be held in different age groups. For those in the low ability category, competitions like 25m and 50m race will be held.

Since its inception in 1987, the Lions Club Valencia has been continuously advancing in the path of community service, undertaking various social work initiatives. Our association with Special Olympics began in 1999 when we organised the state-level Special Olympics, said D’Souza.
