Under the leadership of Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta, the 8th annual Mangaluru kambala will take place on December 28 at the Rama-Lakshmana Jodukare in Goldfinch City. In preparation, a preliminary meeting was held here on Tuesday.
Capt Chowta, President of the Mangalore Kambala Committee, said that the Mangaluru kambala, successfully conducted over the past seven years, received good public recognition and will be a milestone for coastal tourism. He emphasised the importance of preserving kambala for future generations and encouraged youth participation. He also highlighted plans to organise events that showcase the coastal culture to enhance the kambala experience.
Former Minister B Nagraj Shetty said: Kambala is the pride of this land and it is everyone’s duty to carry it forward. He noted that Mangaluru kambala has become a prominent event in this regard. Vijaykumar Kanginamane from the District Kambala Samiti remarked that the kambala held in Mangaluru city has become a major attraction and assured full support from the committee to further enhance the event.
In light of the upcoming kambala event on November 17 and 18 at Pilikula Nisargadhama, preparations were reviewed at the Kambala track in front of the Guthu Mane. Moodbidri MLA Umanath Kotian, MLC Manjunath Bhandary and Deputy Commissioner MP Mullai Muhilan inspected the necessary facilities and preparations.
The renovation of the kambala track is almost complete. The necessary facilities for the participating buffaloes and essential infrastructure for the spectators were reviewed.
Around 150 pairs of buffaloes are expected to participate in the kambala event, with an anticipated attendance of over 25,000 people. MCC commissioner CL Anand, Pilikula Development Authority Commissioner SR Rashmi, Deputy Director of Youth Empowerment and Sports Pradeep D’Souza and Deviprasad Shetty Belapu, President of the District Kambala Samiti were present.
