New Delhi
Valarie Allman, the star American discus thrower and two-time Olympic champion, has been appointed the International Event Ambassador for the Delhi Half Marathon 2024, taking place on October 20. She made headlines at the recent Paris Olympics, where her throw of 69.50 meters not only won her gold but also set a new American record, reinforcing her status among the world’s best in discus throwing.
Allman’s Olympic journey began with her historic victory at the Tokyo 2020 Games, where she claimed gold with an impressive first throw of 68.98 meters. She is also a two-time World Championship medallist, winning silver in 2023 and bronze in 2022. Interestingly, Allman’s athletic career started with a different dream; she initially wanted to be a dancer but discovered her passion for track and field during high school, inspired by her brother.
Despite missing the 2017 World Championships, Allman’s persistence led her to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 team, making her the first American woman to win Olympic gold in discus since 2008. She recorded her personal best throw of 71.46 meters in April 2022, ranking as the 15th longest in history.
Expressing her excitement about visiting India for the marathon, Allman said, Running events unite communities for a greater cause, celebrating determination and resilience. I am thrilled to be part of the Delhi Half Marathon and the vibrant culture of India.
