The Indian men’s table tennis team secured a bronze medal at the Asian Table Tennis Championships held in Astana, Kazakhstan.

This defeat against Chinese Taipei in the semifinals on Thursday marks the end of their journey in the tournament, but the men’s team can take pride in their performance. The Indian women’s team also achieved a bronze medal earlier in the competition, making it a historic moment for the country as it was the first medal in this category since the championships began in 1972.

In the semifinals, legendary player Achanta Sharath Kamal, ranked world No. 42, faced a tough opponent in world No. 7 Lin Yun-Ju. Kamal struggled to find his form as Lin’s exceptional reflexes and precise shots dominated the match, preventing the Indian from settling into his usual rhythm.

Despite the loss, the Indian teams showcased their talent and determination throughout the tournament. The achievements of both the men’s and women’s teams highlight the growing presence of Indian table tennis on the continental stage, promising a bright future for the sport in the country.
