The J&K Assembly election results on Tuesday brought mixed outcomes for the Congress and BJP leaders. Congress chief Tariq Hameed Karra won the Central Shalateng seat in Srinagar, garnering 18,933 votes an impressive lead of 14,395 over his nearest Independent rival, Muhammad Irfan Shah, who received 4,538 votes. In contrast, BJP president Ravinder Raina faced defeat in the Nowshera seat, losing to Surinder Kumar Choudhary of the National Conference by 7,819 votes. Raina, the incumbent MLA, secured 27,250 votes, while Choudhary received 35,069.

The results were also mixed for Karra’s predecessors. Vikar Rasool Wani, the former Congress chief, lost the Banihal seat, finishing third with 20,458 votes behind NC’s Sajad Shaheen, who won with 33,128 votes. Conversely, Ghulam Ahmad Mir, who led the Congress from 2015 to 2022, claimed victory in the Dooru seat by a margin of 29,728 votes, defeating his PDP opponent. Peerzada Mohammed Sayeed also won the Anantnag seat by 1,686 votes. However, former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who left the Congress in 2022 to form his own party, faced a disappointing outcome in the elections.
