Two students from Manipur, mentored by the Assam Rifles, took part in several events for World Mental Health Week at Rashtriya Raksha University in Gujarat. According to the Inspectorate General of Assam Rifles (East), the five-day program began on October 6 to promote awareness of mental health issues. The activities were specifically designed to tackle the challenges children face in conflict-affected areas. Participants engaged in interactive sessions, workshops, and counseling aimed at improving mental health. The curriculum focused on building resilience, enhancing emotional intelligence, and fostering peer support, all tailored for students from conflict zones.
Additionally, the event aimed to showcase the Assam Rifles’ role in helping to deradicalize young people in Manipur, emphasizing their commitment to peace and security in the northeastern region. The statement from the Assam Rifles highlighted their dedication to empowering local communities through educational, health, and outreach initiatives.
The violence in Manipur, which erupted on May 3 last year, was sparked by clashes during a rally by the All Tribals Students Union (ATSU), protesting the inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe category.
