On Tuesday, students at Apeejay School in Delhi celebrated Hangeul Day, marking the introduction of the Korean alphabet in 1446. The event was graced by South Korea’s Ambassador to India, Chang Jae-bok, along with Hwang II Yong, Director of the Korean Cultural Centre, and Neha Berlia, a board member at Apeejay.
Hangeul Day, observed on October 9 in South Korea, honors the creation of the Hangul writing system by King Sejong. The Ambassador expressed his admiration for the students’ performances, noting their enthusiasm for Korean culture. I was touched by the warm welcome and amazed by the students’ excitement for Hangeul, he remarked.
During his speech, the Ambassador highlighted the importance of cultural exchanges in strengthening India-Korea relations. He expressed hope for increased high-level visits between the two countries. India and South Korea established diplomatic relations in 1973 and upgraded their partnership to a Special Strategic Partnership in 2015 during PM’S visit to Seoul.
In 2023, both nations celebrated 50 years of diplomatic ties, with a bilateral trade volume reaching USD 24.4 billion. Events like Hangeul Day celebrations contribute to the ongoing friendship between India and South Korea, fostering deeper cultural connections and collaborations.
