As the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) season 11 approaches, Dabang Delhi K.C. raider Naveen Kumar shared insights about his nickname, Naveen Express, which was given to him by his fans. Despite facing injuries that limited his playtime in recent seasons, including just six games last year, maintaining his fitness will be essential for Dabang Delhi’s success in the upcoming 2024 season.
In an episode of ‘Kings Of Kabaddi,’ Naveen explained how fans contributed to his nickname. Naveen Express was the name given to me by fans. My manager suggested asking fans on social media for name ideas, and this one was the most popular, he said.
Reflecting on his journey in kabaddi, the 24-year-old recalled how he discovered the sport while in the fifth grade. I wasn’t great at studies, but I learned about local events through a government scheme. I skipped school to compete and ended up winning, he shared. The government offered support for his diet in exchange for playing kabaddi, and his grandfather encouraged him to train without harshness.
Naveen reminisced about his debut season, recalling the nerves and excitement he felt during his first match in Chennai in 2018. I was nervous seeing the large audience, but I scored six points, which built my confidence, he said. With Dabang Delhi’s strong raiding unit, featuring Naveen and fellow raider Ashu Malik, who was a top scorer last season, the team is set to make a significant impact in the league.
