Sam Curran recently shared his disappointment at not being recalled to the Test squad, especially after Ben Stokes’ hamstring injury this summer. Curran hopes that his contributions during England’s white-ball tour of the Caribbean will bolster his chances of being recognized across formats.
At 26, Curran’s international career is at a pivotal moment. Despite being named Player of the Final and Tournament in England’s T20 World Cup victory in Australia two years ago, he feels uncertain about his role in white-ball cricket, especially compared to his success in franchise leagues. This uncertainty comes after a challenging T20 title defense in the Caribbean, where he took only three wickets and had limited batting opportunities.
Curran has not played Test cricket since August 2021 and has not been included in any matches since Brendon McCullum became head coach. His last appearances were marked by significant contributions to team victories, boasting 16 wins in 24 Tests. However, with Stokes firmly positioned as the senior all-rounder, Curran’s chances have dwindled.
Curran is determined to prove himself and remains focused on his goals. With the upcoming Caribbean tour, he looks forward to stepping into a larger role. My aim is to score runs, take wickets, and help the team win, he stated, remaining hopeful about his future with the England team.
