Rookie rider Pedro Acosta from Red Bull GASGAS Tech3 secured an impressive pole position at the Grand Prix of Japan, breaking the all-time lap record with a time of 1:43.018 during Saturday’s qualifying session. This achievement makes Acosta the third youngest rider to start from pole in the premier class. He will be joined on the front row by Francesco Bagnaia from Team Ducati, who finished just 0.246 seconds behind him, and Maverick Viñales from Aprilia Racing, who will start in third.
The qualifying session was filled with excitement, as light rain created challenging conditions. Franco Morbidelli (Prima Pramac Racing) and Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha MotoGP) both advanced to Q2 after improving their times in Q1. In the intense Q2 session, Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP) initially took the lead with a strong lap, but his impressive time of 1:42.868 was disqualified for exceeding track limits, allowing Acosta to claim pole.
Enea Bastianini (Ducati) will start from the second row in fourth, just missing out on the front row, followed by Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM) in fifth and Morbidelli in sixth. Meanwhile, Marquez will begin from ninth after a challenging session, and Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) will start 11th following a late crash.
