The Hockey India League (HIL) is set to make its much-anticipated return after a seven-year break, with the 2024-25 season officially confirmed to take place from late December 2024 to early February 2025. The tournament will feature eight men’s teams and six women’s teams, marking the first time women’s teams will compete alongside men’s teams in the league’s history.
This inclusion highlights Hockey India’s dedication to promoting women’s hockey and expanding opportunities for female athletes. Both men’s and women’s tournaments will run simultaneously, a significant step in advancing gender equality in Indian sports.
The player auction for the league is scheduled for October 13-15 in New Delhi. Hockey India has long been committed to offering equal support to both the men’s and women’s national teams, providing equal financial incentives, international exposure, and prize money for their achievements in global tournaments.
Hockey India President, Dilip Kumar Tirkey, expressed his excitement on social media, stating, The Hockey India League is back after seven long years, bigger and better, with eight men’s and six women’s teams. This isn’t just a league but a platform to shape the future of Indian hockey, showcasing equal opportunities for all players.
