A wave of thefts rattled local businesses after unknown individuals sent threatening letters to shop owners, demanding the removal of CCTV cameras. The letters, containing a danger symbol, were sent to Srinivas and Vasuki, warning, “Remove the CCTV cameras or face consequences.” The owners immediately lodged a complaint at the town police station.
Despite the warnings, three shops in the Bhubaneswari Circle area were robbed late Wednesday night. The targeted businesses, including Swagat Traders, Prabhu Electrical, and Vinay Automobiles, saw their CCTV systems destroyed as thieves used ladders to enter the shops. Glass windows were smashed, and goods and cash worth lakhs were stolen.
In a separate incident in Hanur taluk, an elderly man was tied up and robbed of his money in broad daylight. The thieves also looted a family’s savings meant for a wedding in Hanur and had previously carried out a series of thefts in Chandakawadi village.
Police have launched an investigation with the help of a dog squad and fingerprint experts to track down the culprits behind this alarming crime spree.
