The wait is almost over for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, set to begin soon in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This ninth edition of the tournament will showcase 150 of the world’s top players as ten teams compete in 23 matches to determine the new champions. The opening match on October 3 will feature Bangladesh facing debutants Scotland.
The tournament will take place at two premier cricket venues: Sharjah Cricket Stadium and Dubai International Stadium. These locations will challenge players with their unique conditions. England all-rounder Freya Kemp noted, the two venues can be quite different. It will be a case of who assesses the conditions quickest.
Australia, aiming for their fourth consecutive title, is led by new captain Alyssa Healy. Despite the change in leadership, the team’s determination remains strong. Healy commented, there are no real expectations on our group. But I expect it to be a really tough tournament.
Fans should mark their calendars for key matchups, including Australia’s clash with India on October 13. South Africa, having reached their first final in 2023, hopes to continue their momentum under Captain Laura Wolvaardt.
With two top teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals on October 17 and 18, the anticipation is building for the final showdown on October 20 in Dubai. Let the games begin.
