Sekar Patchai sweeps all titles at 2024 National SUP Championship

Sekar Patchai from Tamil Nadu won all titles in the men’s category at the SUP Challenge 2024, held at Pirappanvalasi Beach, Rameswaram. He completed a clean sweep by winning the technical race, distance race, and sprint race at the National Stand-Up Paddling Championship.

In the women’s division, Tanvi Jagdish won the newly introduced Distance Race, securing her second title of the championship. Anandi Arthi won the Sprint race, defeating defending champion Monika P. Anandi, aged 14, finished the race in 2:08.43, while Tanvi and Monika placed second and third, respectively.

The two-day event saw intense competition. Sekar defended his title in the men’s distance race, covering 12 kilometers in 1:26:40.62. Manikandan M and Akash Pujar took second and third places in the men’s distance race.

The growing popularity of Stand-Up Paddling in India was noted, with the Palkbay SUP Challenge providing a platform for young athletes. It was highlighted that the event attracted a record number of participants this year.

Anandi Arthi expressed joy in winning the Sprint title, acknowledging the tough competition. Sekar Patchai also expressed satisfaction in defending his titles, further adding to his achievements in the sport.
