Kanpur
Day two of the second Test match between India and Bangladesh at Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium was completely abandoned due to rain, with no play possible on Saturday. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the cancellation on X, stating, ‘Update from Kanpur: Play has been called off for Day 2 due to rains. Earlier, rain delays led to the Indian team leaving the stadium in their bus, as they awaited the start of the day’.
If India fails to win this Test, it could complicate their path to a potential hat-trick in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final in the UK. They would need to achieve convincing victories against New Zealand in a three-match home series starting October 16 and against Australia in a five-match away series beginning November 22. Currently, India leads the WTC standings with seven wins, two losses, and one draw from ten matches.
The first day of the Test was also affected by rain, with Bangladesh only able to play 35 overs, finishing at 107/3. Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim were both unbeaten when play ended. India, having won the first Test by 280 runs, currently leads the two-match series 1-0.
India’s lineup includes Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah, while Bangladesh features Shadman Islam and Najmul Hossain Shanto among others.
