Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan has directed officials to identify and address black spots on roads to reduce accidents. He made these remarks during a district-level road safety committee meeting at his office.
Roshan instructed the Panchayat Raj Engineering Department and Public Works Department to conduct a joint survey and provide a report on accidental deaths over the past three years, highlighting areas with frequent accidents. He also emphasized the need for the Belagavi City Corporation to ensure that CCTV cameras across the city are operational and called for an increase in speed control measures.
The Deputy Commissioner urged Regional Transport Office (RTO) officials to continue promoting helmet use among two-wheeler riders and to penalize those without helmets. He stressed the need to revoke the driving licenses of auto drivers who exceed passenger limits and ordered a halt to the registration of new auto-rickshaws due to an oversupply in the city.
Additionally, Roshan announced that meters would be mandatory for auto-rickshaws starting next month and requested a meeting with road transport, police, and auto-rickshaw association officials.
Superintendent of Police Bhimashankar Guled encouraged RTO officials to publicize details of canceled driving licenses for safety violations on social media, highlighting that many accidents are due to speeding and can be mitigated through stricter enforcement. DCP Shruti and other officials were also present at the meeting.
