An anti-corruption awareness week was inaugurated at JNN Engineering College on Wednesday by Principal District and Sessions Judge Manjunath Nayka, who is also Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority. He stated that despite the presence of laws, special courts, and the Lokayukta, corruption remains a challenge and can only be reduced with the active involvement of the public.
Judge Nayka emphasized that corruption stems from the desire for more, and societal priorities must shift towards better education to combat this issue. He noted that improved education plays a key role in reducing corruption, and if job opportunities and facilities are provided adequately, corruption could be curbed. He further suggested that the qualification of those responsible for maintaining cleanliness should be addressed.
Superintendent of Police HM Manjunath Chaudhary, representing the Karnataka Lokayukta, highlighted how corruption includes government officials failing to deliver services, neglecting duties, delaying tasks unnecessarily, and demanding bribes.
SN Nagaraja, National Education Committee Secretary, remarked that corruption is taking money from the public for personal gain, and it is now widespread. Eliminating corruption, he said, is a significant challenge driven by greed.
Senior Civil Judge MS Santosh discussed the importance of laws, such as the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988, in fighting corruption.
The event was attended by several officials, including the District Bar Association President, the Director of Rashtika Education Committee, and the Principal of JNN Engineering College.
