Former Supreme Court Judge Justice Santosh Hegde has emphasized the need to address the decline of human values that contribute to ongoing atrocities against women and children. Speaking at a youth convention organized by the All India Democratic Youth Organisation in Dharwad, he highlighted the widespread anger following the Nirbhaya case, which led to demands for stronger women’s laws.

Justice Hegde urged a new wave of protests due to the recent rise in violence against women. He noted the increasing problem of drug abuse among youth, stating that many are becoming dependent on narcotics and committing crimes. He pointed out that those released from prison are often celebrated, in contrast to the past when they faced social ostracism. He also criticized the delays in legal proceedings for crimes against women, suggesting that this has encouraged further criminal behavior. Justice Hegde encouraged youth to embrace the values of their ancestors to help create a crime-free society. Other speakers at the event echoed his concerns about the rising incidents of rape and murder in society, calling for immediate action and awareness.
