Dhanya Ramkumar’s first look from her second film, Kala Patthar, has been well-received and the appreciation is taking the leading lady down memory lane, to the time of the muhurta of her debut, Ninna Sanihake, when uncle Puneeth Rajkumar was part of it.
“It meant so much because the entire family rallied around me. I remember Appu maama asking me soon after the release of Ninna Sanihake as to what kind of films I’d like to do. I had told him that I’d want to star in films that would make me go into the depths of my soul and explore the performer in me. Just like how thatha (Dr Rajkumar) had done and, of course, my maamas. I had done a commercial film, now it’s time to showcase the other side, I had told him,” shares Dhanya.
After Ninna Sanihake last year, Dhanya was in no hurry to sign her second. “Firstly, the family went through a tough time last year and we are all still coming to grips with it. Secondly, it had to be something that piqued my interest. I signed Kala Patthar earlier this year and have shot for most parts of it. I remember speaking to Shivu maama (Shivarajkumar) about doing the film and he was happy when he heard Vikky was directing it. He had seen Vikky assisting Suri sir and was confident the film would turn out well,” shares Dhanya.
Speaking of her look in Kala Patthar which is in stark contrast to the one she played in her debut, Dhanya says, “In fact, my character in Ninna Sanihake is a lot like how I am in real life. So, when my friends saw me as Ganga in Kala Patthar, they were surprised. Also, many people assume that I must be haughty in real life. Don’t go by my looks; I’m definitely not like that,” she laughs.
